Hadrian's wall, cavalry barracks, bathhouse complex, officers quarters and on site museum etc. The museum is small but bursting with artifacts.Its s fascinating site especially when you consider how much remains unexcavated and yet there is still a lot to see.We had an excellent tour, very informative about the site itself. The dog footprints left behind in clay tiles by the black terriers the soldiers used to keep down the rats, were somehow poignant. It can be quite cold and windy there as it's quite exposed, so wrap up warm even if the weather is not too bad when you set off. The ground is grassy and quite steep in places, also you are occasionally walking on quite ancient and uneven surfaces so wear sensible shows with good grips. Apparently, during Xmas and New Year they don't always have on site guides, we were very fortunate one of them came in. He wasn't due to work the day we visited but was bored and came in on the off chance. This was much appreciatedThere's a gift shop and little cafe. The food was pricey but the coffee and tea reasonably priced and tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful.

One of the main Hadrians wall attractions. Good parking (paid - but you get the money back if you visit the Fort). Nice clean entrance and cafe (like all national trust buildings). On site museum is good, but not disabled friendly (upstairs can be challenging for some) but the rest of the site can mostly be accessed with a wheelchair.Great place to visit if there are any events on (Cavalry or fighting displays).
This is a wonderful place with an amazingly well preserved Roman Baths! You can see the ruins of all four main gates and barracks as well as the heart of the fort.The museum of all the relics John Clayton collected over his time of saving Hadrian's Wall is fascinating and full to the brim with exhibits.You are also able to see the remains of the bridge the Romans built over the North Tyne River.There is a cafe, gift shop and toilets. The ground is relatively flat and accessible but it is quite steep to get down to the Roman Baths.Parking is 3 all day but if you purchase entry into the Fort this is refunded. If you're a member of English Heritage parking is free. Today the charge to get in for an adult we'd 7.70.A great visit and I would highly recommend the free guided tour. Paul took us round today and we were fascinated for 1 1/2 hours with factoids you wouldn't get just wandering around.You should definitely visit Chester's Fort!
Massive preserved Roman fort. Really well looked after. Lots to see and do. Nice walk and beautiful scenery. There is a tea room and toilets and parking. Gift shop and all part of English Heritage so would be free for all those with a membership.
