Roman ruins of a huge Garrison. So much to see. The surrounding country is just amazing. Hey! The Romans didn't just build anyplace. They built in areas where they had a commanding Vista and what a Vista. There is an example of how high the lookout posts where great for All children adult children too.

Great site with old digs and fort. The museum is good for a wander as well. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here

The Vindolanda was incredible. We spent a few hours here and could have easily spent a couple more. The fort is humongous and you are free to walk around the entire area (except what is blocked off; they could have a dig area.) There are many small signs posted so you know what that spot is believed to have been (butcher shop, for example.)The entire area is beautiful and when you walk past the Vindolanda to the museum, its still beautiful with a waterfall and creek area. The museum was full of interesting finds from the Vindolanda and full of information. There was even a small kids area, too. The cafe was pleasant and there was a good selection of books and miscellaneous items in the gift shop. I absolutely recommend making this a stop if you are visiting England.

One of the best museums i have ever been to. The artefacts on show are mind blowing especially the texts. Lady on the desk was really passionate about her job and incredibly helpful. Definitely buy the dual ticket and go to the roman army museum up the road as well. This is honestly one of the best museums in the country.

Amazing roman fort with an active volunteer archaeology program. Recently renovated museum houses a great collection of ancient objects including some unique and incredibly important examples of writing that have opened up the roman world to our study. Good companion to the roman army museum further west along the wall. Theres even a double saver ticket available. Beautiful countryside nearby laced with public footpaths.
